Psychological evaluations for adoption and fertility: how we support hopeful parents
Maternal Mental Health Week (5–11 May 2025) shines a light on the emotional journey of becoming a parent. For many people, that journey includes adoption, fertility treatments, or surrogacy - and it’s not always easy.
At Encore Psychology, we offer psychological evaluations for people going through adoption or fertility-related processes. These are often required by agencies, courts or clinics - but we know they can also be deeply personal. That’s why we approach every evaluation with care, understanding, and respect.
What is a reproductive or adoption evaluation?
A reproductive psychological evaluation is often needed when intended parents are using third-party reproduction, such as egg or sperm donation or surrogacy.
An adoption evaluation (sometimes called a psychological evaluation for adoption) is required by some adoption agencies or legal systems, especially for international or private adoptions.
These evaluations help ensure that adoptive or intended parents are emotionally prepared and well-supported. But they’re not just a box to tick - they’re a chance to reflect, prepare, and feel confident as you move forward.
A kind, knowledgeable approach
We know that this process can feel daunting. Our team is here to make it smoother, more supportive, and more human.
“Our experience with Dr. Colman and the Encore Psychology team was truly fantastic. From the very beginning, they were incredibly helpful throughout our entire adoption process. Dr. Colman's genuine nature made everything smooth and efficient, and her kindness and cooperative spirit made her a joy to work with. She also shared invaluable insights and resources, drawn from her dissertation on adoption for her graduate degree. This expertise added immense value to our journey. We wholeheartedly loved working with Dr. Colman and the Encore team, and we enthusiastically recommend them for any evaluations, especially adoption-related processes.”
