Neuropsychological evaluation
When the questions are more complex, a standard psychological evaluation may not be enough. A neuropsychological evaluation goes deeper: it examines how the brain is functioning across a broad range of cognitive domains, tracing the relationship between brain-based processes and everyday thinking, learning, and behavior.
Encore Psychology offers neuropsychological evaluations for children, teens, and adults under doctoral-level oversight. Our founder, Dr. Brooke Colman, is a licensed Clinical Psychologist with training across medical, hospital, and assessment-based settings.
What Is a Neuropsychological Evaluation?
A neuropsychological evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of cognitive functioning. It examines:
- Attention and executive function (planning, organization, working memory, inhibitory control)
- Memory and learning (how information is encoded, stored, and retrieved)
- Processing speed (how quickly the brain takes in and acts on information)
- Language and verbal abilities
- Visual-spatial and visual-motor processing
- Academic and intellectual functioning when relevant
The evaluation draws on standardized, validated cognitive measures administered over one or more sessions. Results are interpreted alongside a thorough background history and behavioral observations.
Who Neuropsychological Testing Is For
Neuropsychological evaluations are well suited to presentations that are layered, hard to parse, or have not been fully explained by prior assessments. Common reasons to pursue this level of evaluation include:
- ADHD with overlapping concerns (learning differences, memory issues, or co-occurring anxiety that complicates the picture)
- Suspected learning disorders where a fuller cognitive profile is needed for school planning or accommodations
- Complex diagnostic questions involving attention, memory, or processing that warrant a broader battery
- Children or adults who have had an incomplete prior evaluation and need a more comprehensive workup
- Cognitive concerns related to medical history, developmental variation, or academic underperformance that has not been explained
What Makes Encore's Approach Different
Dr. Colman does not run a fixed cognitive battery for every evaluation. She selects measures based on your specific history, presenting concerns, and the clinical question at hand.
"Just because I use a standardized type of measure," she explains, "doesn't mean I don't take into account that every experience you have is very unique. I'm very conscientious of the type of tests and measures I use for each person."

Every evaluation concludes with a comprehensive, multi-page written report. For neuropsychological evaluations, the report typically includes:
- Background history and reason for referral
- Behavioral observations across testing sessions
- Test-by-test results with clinical interpretation
- An integrated summary of cognitive strengths and areas to support
- Diagnostic impressions
- Recommendations: therapy approaches, accommodations, specialist referrals, and strategies for home, school, or work
The report is written to be shared: with schools, healthcare providers, employers, or attorneys, depending on the reason for the evaluation.
A feedback session is offered to walk through results together before the final report is issued, so you leave with direction, not just a document.
Insurance, Fees, and Turnaround
Encore Psychology is in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), Blue Care Network (BCN), and Priority Health. Private pay is also available. Coverage for neuropsychological testing varies by plan; contact us before scheduling and we will verify your specific benefits.

Referring Providers
Neuropsychological evaluations are a common referral from PCPs, psychiatrists, neurologists, and educational teams. You may email admin@encorepsychology.com with your own contact information to request a callback, but please do not include patient information or any health details in that email.
Location and Scheduling
Encore Psychology is located at 33 Bloomfield Hills Parkway, Suite 225, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304, and is available Monday through Friday. The time from initial contact to a first appointment is typically around six weeks. Telehealth evaluations may be available for eligible clients; see Online Evaluations for details.
