What We Treat

Psychological testing works best when it answers a clear question about how someone thinks, learns, focuses, or experiences the world. This page walks you through the conditions and concerns Encore tests for most often: ADHD, autism, learning disorders, and memory or thinking changes.

These pages are starting points. For how testing works, what an evaluation includes, fees, insurance, and scheduling, see Psychological Testing and Evaluations or the evaluation page for your age group.

We see clients from age two through adulthood in person at our Bloomfield Hills office. Telehealth testing is available to adults through PSYPACT (the interstate telehealth compact) in 40 states.

Conditions We Evaluate

ADHD

ADHD looks different across ages and people. In adults, it often looks less like being visibly hyperactive and more like ongoing trouble with focus, staying organized, and following through. In children and teens, it may show up at school, at home, or both, and it does not always look the same in each place.

Knowing whether ADHD is part of the picture can make sense of years of effort and self-doubt. It can also open the door to accommodations and support that fit.

Autism

Many autistic people are not evaluated until they are adults. Others are diagnosed in childhood, often through school or developmental referrals. An evaluation can put a name to a lifelong pattern of difference and connect people with support that fits their real experience.

Learning Disorders

Learning disorders affect how people read, write, and work with numbers. They include specific learning disorder with impairment in reading (often called dyslexia), in written expression (dysgraphia), and in mathematics (dyscalculia). They are not a reflection of intelligence or effort. We test children, teens, and adults, including college and graduate students. Testing pins down the exact nature of a learning difference and produces paperwork that schools can act on, whether for an IEP, a 504 plan, or college-level accommodations.

Memory and Cognitive Concerns

Changes in memory, focus, language, or thinking can have many causes. Encore tests adults who are worried about cognitive decline or dementia, or who want a clearer picture of how their thinking works now. Testing shows what the findings do and do not support, without assuming a diagnosis.
